HitchPass
Last updated: June 11, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains what information HitchPass collects, how we use and share it, and the choices you have. It applies to the HitchPass application and website (the “Service”) and to users in the United States, Canada, and elsewhere.
The Service is operated by HitchPass, a sole proprietorship operated by James Payne (“HitchPass,” “we,” “us,” or “our”). We are the controller of the personal information described in this policy.
| Category | Examples | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Account information | Name, email address, password (stored in hashed form) | You |
| Membership data | The campground membership networks you hold, membership numbers or notes you enter, and saved bookings | You |
| Payment information | Subscription plan and billing status. Card details are collected and processed directly by our payment processor, Stripe — we do not store your full card number. | You / Stripe |
| Location data | Approximate or precise location, used only with your permission, to power features like coverage near a destination | Your device |
| Usage & device data | App interactions, feature usage, device type, browser, and similar diagnostic data | Automatically |
You can use much of the Service without granting location access; some location-based features simply will not function without it.
We share personal information only as needed to run the Service:
The Service may also display information from, or link to, third-party membership networks and campgrounds. Those third parties are independent of us and have their own privacy practices, which we do not control.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.
The Service is a progressive web app and uses cookies, local storage, and similar technologies to keep you signed in, remember your preferences, enable offline functionality, and understand how the Service is used. You can control cookies through your browser settings, though some features may not work properly if you disable them.
We retain your information for as long as your account is active and as needed to provide the Service. After you close your account, we delete or de-identify your personal information within a reasonable period, except where we must retain it to comply with legal, tax, or accounting obligations or to resolve disputes.
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information, including encryption in transit and reliance on PCI-compliant payment processing through Stripe. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, however, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
You may access, correct, or delete your account information at any time from your account settings or by contacting us at supporthitchpass@gmail.com. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under applicable law, including the rights described below for California and Canadian residents. We will not discriminate against you for exercising any of these rights.
HitchPass is based in the United States, and the information we collect is stored and processed in the United States and in other locations where our service providers operate. Data-protection laws in the United States may differ from those in your country. By using the Service from outside the United States — including from Canada — you understand and consent to the transfer of your information to, and its processing in, the United States. The Service is directed to users in the United States and Canada and is not intended for residents of the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland.
If you are a California resident, the California Consumer Privacy Act (as amended) gives you the right to: know what personal information we collect and how we use it; request access to or a copy of that information; request deletion or correction of your information; and opt out of the sale or sharing of your information. As stated above, we do not sell or share your personal information, so no opt-out is necessary. To exercise your rights, contact us at supporthitchpass@gmail.com. We will verify your request using your account information before responding.
If you are in Canada, your personal information is protected under the federal Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and, where applicable, provincial laws including Quebec’s Law 25, Alberta’s PIPA, and British Columbia’s PIPA. We collect and use your personal information based on your consent for the purposes described in this policy, and you may withdraw that consent at any time (subject to legal or contractual limits and the effect that withdrawal may have on your ability to use the Service).
You have the right to access the personal information we hold about you, to request correction of inaccurate information, and to ask questions about how we handle it. If you are a Quebec resident, you also have rights to data portability, to be informed about decisions based on automated processing, and to request de-indexing in certain circumstances. To exercise any of these rights, contact us at supporthitchpass@gmail.com. If you are not satisfied with our response, you may file a complaint with the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada or your applicable provincial privacy regulator (such as the Commission d’accès à l’information du Québec).
The Service is not directed to children under 18, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the “Last updated” date above and, for material changes, provide additional notice where appropriate.
